Our Wellness Journey…
About 2 decades ago I started on a journey that I had no idea would lead me to the life I never knew I could be living. I was at a point in my life where I was so lost in who I truly was and the direction I wanted my life to go. I should have been overwhelmingly happy…having a warm home with a loving husband and my amazing children, but instead I was feeling like I was slowly dying inside each and every day. My face barley outside the water. Waves crashing over me making it hard to breathe. I couldn't understand WHY. Don’t get me wrong, I have always been extremely grateful, but inside I felt something was missing, I felt completely unaligned. I knew something needed to change but I didn’t know where to start. I felt so overwhelmed that I couldn't wrap my head around what foot to put down first. I was feeling so guilty that I didn't have it all together. Like what was so wrong with me in this world that I could not be so happy and healthy like everyone else? I soon realized that I was not alone in the ways that I was feeling. The more that I started to open up about how I was feeling the more I was told and seen that there were so many other women out there that were feeling very similar to me.
This was massive. This is what truly started my shift.
I knew that there had to be a better way. I discovered that it was not that something was wrong. It was that we had not been taught how. Generations before us didn’t know how to change these feelings. They were taught to suppress them, to suck it up, to just keep pushing forward. They were not taught to ask the questions and dig in. I knew that I wanted a better life for my children. I knew that I wanted them to make sure that their number 1 focus in this world was themselves. To live the healthiest version of themselves mind, body, and spirit.
What was the best way to make sure they learnt the tools to achieve this?
By seeing the world around them doing it. That started with me.
So I started diving into all the things.
The first step was to get my mind back to a version that sees the world from the beauty it is. The way that a young child sees the world. This meant that I needed to start a journey into personal development. I am now a massive believer that every single person every single day needs to have a ritual that they use to keep their. I tremendously improved the quality of my wellbeing and life when I began implementing strategic life habits, listening to my soul and ensuring harmony in my life.
I soon discovered that this was not the only thing that needed to shift in my world. My daughter had started to develop major gut issues. At the time I had no idea what the issues were. She would suffer from these horrendous pains in her abdomen. Many sleepless nights, trips to the ER, countless doctors and tests. So much trauma built up from all of this for her and the rest of our family. Through all of this we discovered an amazing doctor that truly saw things from a more holistic approach. This was something that was so new to me. I had always been taught to just be okay with and use modern medicine. Just take another pill for that. We never really did discover exactly what the cause of the pain was but we started to take a deep dive into her nutrition and gut health. Was I ever in shock and in awe of all the things that we learnt. This propelled me into really giving a focus on the things that we were ingesting into our bodies. The foods that we eat play a direct roll in how our whole body functions. This was so fascinating to me. Knowing that anxiety, depression, brain fog, poor immune system, tiredness, and so much more were in direct relation to what we eat blew my mind.
I started to eliminate and shift our foods to things that actually served our bodies. Removing more and more processed foods made me feel amazing in my own body. Not only did I start to really notice a difference, people started to see a massive difference in me. I was so shocked when the pains started to dissipate for my daughter. I saw my happy, go lucky, fun loving little girl back. She was feeling better than ever before. Once I discovered that our nutrition played that big of a factor in our lives it got me thinking about the products that we use on and around our bodies. Those products that you just are so conditioned to just go get at the big box stores. Those products that you are like, well this one is cheaper so I will just use it. Not even considering the ingredients that are in them, cause why would you if you have never been taught? I think this was one of the biggest eye openers on my journey.
We put so much trust in these companies that are out there that they have our best interest and health in mind. The reality is they only have their bottom line in mind. How much money can they make? Not what this product is going to do to our customers health wise. I learnt that so many of the personal products that we were using were actually doing more harm to our systems than they were good.
One of the things that really got me thinking about this is when you are pregnant you are told so many times not to use certain things because it goes through the mothers skin, into their blood and directly into the baby. Why would I not be concerned about that being bad for myself as well? This absolutely didn't make any sense to me. If I would not use something cause it would harm my baby then why in the heck am I using it on myself? Why am I using cleaning products in my home that have to be locked away and can kill us? Why am I using products that have all the warning labels on them?
I started to really figure out what ingredients I was not even going to allow in my home or around any one of us. The first thing that I swapped out was our laundry detergents. I have this on me all day. Not a moment goes by that you are not using something that has been washed in laundry detergent. I was shocked to find out what ingredients were actually in most national brands. Even those ones that they say are safe for all your little babies.
Once I started to remove these things from our world I noticed even more changes. We didn't have eczema running rampid in our house, my hormones started to level back out, I honestly could breathe better, My hands no longer cracked open and bled, these are just to name a few. I believe mindfulness is the key to success in life. Practicing habits that support your true interests, promote longevity, build confidence, improve healthy relationships, and boost overall health – both physically and mentally, is so important. But I know that sometimes taking the first dive in, can be daunting and discouraging, never mind overwhelming! That’s why I am so passionate about offering you the support and guidance that you need to start this journey and feel equipped to continue on your path. Who says you have to do it all alone? Nobody, you absolutely do not, I will be here for you every step of the way.
These tools and practices don’t have to be hard, time-consuming, stressful tasks added to your already revolving to-do list. Many of the habits I live out are through my interests in yoga, meditation, gardening, prepping, cooking and spending time with my family. These things just have to work for you and the lifestyle you are striving to live and flourish in. Once we discover these together and you begin to practice them in your everyday life, you will see transformations in yourself like never before.
As always, I am Rooting for You
